Lunch with Jennifer

I had a very pleasant lunch with my older daughter Jennifer today. We met at McDonald's, the one where I work, and I bought her lunch for her.

She's working at the middle school only about a block away, teaching 6th grade math for summer school. In August, she'll start working full time as a math teacher at a school in the next town over.

Since becoming involved in the public educational system, she's disappointed that many students have never been taught foundational math skills. That makes higher math studies a lot harder for them. There's nothing for them to build on. Instead, they wind up in remedial courses because teachers are working hard to make sure students pass the testing requirements, and doing that takes up all their class time.
