Mobility issues

My dear mother, age 84, uses a cane for getting around. She can still walk on her own but hasn't been able to walk very far anymore until she and my sis started walking about 3 times a week at local walking tracks. So now, her walking has improved quite a bit, but she was to the point where it looked like she was going to need an electric mobility scooter to continue going places.

She has used a mobility scooter at places like large shopping malls or the Clinton Museum in Little Rock. Most places, though, only have wheelchairs and a limited number of those is available. Not everyone that needs one, gets one.

Still, the day may come when she'll need a medical scooter in order to go about her daily business of keeping her house or going outside to the gardens and yard. If she does need one for outside, she'll also need scooter ramps so she can get off and on her front porch.

She's trying really hard not to get in that position, though, and I think she does very well for someone of her age and with the hip and back problems that she has. I hope that she continues this way, because I really feel that if she gets to where she can only get around with a scooter, then she might become disheartened. Yet, if she needs one, I am sure she can acquire one through channels that do such things. If not, then my sis and I will make sure she has a mobility scooter to use.
