Tumor treatment

You all know from my profile that I lost my beloved husband to cancer in 2005. It's been really hard without him. So, now I see this new treatment and I think to myself, "Could this have prolonged his life or at least kept him more coherent in his last days?"

See, he had lung cancer. It was huge and it metastasized throughout his body and even into his brain. The radiation therapist outfitted him with a stifling mask for radiation therapy on his head, but Danny couldn't stand it so they wound up doing the treatments without that. How much collateral damage did they do? I'll never know. Danny's cancer was too far advanced to do anything to save his life - only to ease his discomfort. Perhaps, though, this Gamma Knife brain tumor treatment might have at least kept him "Danny" longer so he could have interacted with us and the rest of his family better.

Where are treatments like this when a person really needs them?
