First Day of Radiation
~~Thursday, August 25, 2005~~
Today seemed long for some reason, even though Danny and I both overslept a little this morning. We got ready and went to the radiation doctor's office. A train held us up so we were actually about 5 minutes late, but they were ok with that.
The radiation didn't really take long at all and Danny didn't have any discomfort afterward. Well, none he hadn't already been experiencing. He has chest pain but had that for a couple of days before all the other events of last week.
After the treatment, we took his scrips by the Walmart pharmacy and picked up a couple of other items. Got the meds and went to the bank so he could cash his last paycheck. It wasn't much but it will help. Then went by the flea market and settled up with them. I may have to pull my stuff out of there. Some is selling but it's not completely paying the rent. It might do better on ebay.
By the time everything was finished, we were both hot and tired. We drank some iced tea, ate lunch, and rested most of the afternoon.
I went out and watered the animals. Got crazy Glory's (goat) head out of the fence again. She never learns. Keeps poking her head through the fence and getting stuck because her horns get hung.
Got tomatoes out of the freezer and peeled them for spaghetti sauce. I let it simmer several hours so it reduced and was thick enough. Used ground buffalo meat in it so it was more healthful.
I called my grown niece so that she and her boyfriend could come over and help me with housecleaning. How does a house get so dirty when everyone's just coming and going? They did a wonderful job. He even went around and cleaned up the yard for me. They ate supper with us, too. I like to feed people.
I may not post a blog tomorrow. See, we're to have a ton of company. First, Danny's brother, sister-in-law, and grown niece and nephew are coming over here from Mississippi. They could be here as early as 8 AM. We're looking forward to the visit. I'll fix a big lunch for us all. My sister and Mom are coming after lunch to visit, as is my grown daughter. So at some point in the afternoon we'll have a houseful.
Now keep in mind that in between all this - at 10:10 AM to be exact - I'll have to take Danny for radiation. This means his family members will need to just be here without us. It will take us about 1.5 hours to complete that trip since we live so far out of town. They know this already. Elizabeth will probably be here to "entertain" them until we get back.
I'll put chicken in the crockpot early in the AM. Around lunchtime, I'll cook brown rice, mashed taters (yeah, I know...two starches), green beans, and maybe corn. I guess I need to get a loaf of bread into the machine in the morning, too, so it'll be done for lunch. That's easier than making biscuits and cooler than using the oven.
So, by the time tomorrow night rolls around I'm sure I'll be done in, as will Danny.
I'm thankful we had the money in the bank to get Danny's meds. I'm also thankful he had enough money to buy more minutes for his phone. That's how his family talks to him. I'm thankful that we have gas money right now. I'm thankful there will be visitors tomorrow, especially his family since he doesn't get to see them very often. I'm thankful I have plenty of food in the freezer. I'm thankful for praying friends.
