Credit problems

We've gone through some very rough seasons in our life, and as a result our/my credit is shot. Because of this, it's very tempting to get what's called a "bad credit loan" to perhaps buy a car or even a small house. But I'm learning this really isn't a good idea. It would be so much better if I could really fix my credit one way or another.
