Tired!
My first full shift at McDonald's was last night for closing. We went to work at 5. First, I got on the training computer for awhile. Then Brandon put me in drive-thru. I can see already that's going to take a few times to really get good at it. I'm not familiar enough with the register screen and its abbreviations. I'm glad there was someone there to help me with it.
My trainer said it might take a month to really get comfortable with drive-thru. I'm so glad he didn't say a day! Yet Brandon asked me at one point if I thought I could handle it by myself. Well, no. I did learn the register where you take the money, slide credit cards, etc. But taking orders is much more complicated, moreso when people ask for particular ways to have their sandwiches fixed.
After I'd done that for awhile, I was put on fryer, which I'm very comfortable with. I kept fries going through the rushes and through a big crowd of church people who came in late after their revival services. They were all very nice and very patient, though. However, it meant we couldn't do any preclosing tasks as they stayed until just before we closed the doors.
When we finally did close, I washed dishes. Well, it's not just "dishes" in a place like that. It's every single piece from the fry station, the backline station, and every station in there. It's trays, pans, parts, spatulas, fry baskets...you name it, it gets washed every night then everything's reassembled so it's ready for the morning crew. Closing also includes sweeping, pulling out equipment to sweep and mop, deck brushing all floors and remopping them, wiping down every surface, and doing the laundry which is the cloth towels McDonald's uses for cleaning all day long. Hundreds of them, I think, since they are frequently put in the soiled towels bucket and fresh ones gotten out. They are all sanitized and fresh ones are put into buckets of sanitizer water for use in all areas of the store.
Tonight we're to have an additional person to help close so that should make the going a bit better. With me being inexperienced (I only closed a couple of times at Arby's and their system is different), I slowed us down. We didn't get out of there till around 2 AM...way too long for closing.
Anyway, the upshot of it is that I'm tired today but "I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep", as Joyce Kilmer so aptly put it.
I'm in the midst of laundry and have folded a couple of loads already. There's one more in the dryer and will probably be another to wash (towels) after we get ready for work this afternoon.
I'll get the dishwasher unloaed. There are a few dishes to put back in it but we'll probably use paper plates for lunch. Lunch will be leftover fried rice or leftover spaghetti, whichever we choose since there's both in the fridge.
I forgot to take any of my meds yesterday. Bad me. I have got to remember them today or I could be in trouble. I had a lot of pain last night at work late and when we came home. That's because I didn't take all the doses of my pain med. I bet I won't forget again!
I decided that on my break at McDonald's I should not eat a combo meal. By the time we eat a hearty lunch here, I just don't need that much food in the evening. I'll probably stick with the fruit and walnut snack or get a salad or something else light. I don't operate well in the evening if I've eaten too much plus I don't want to put on pounds. I'd like to actually continue losing, so that means being very careful with what I eat. Also, the added fat and salt can't be good for high blood pressure.
My guiding verse for today:
1 Cor 10:31b
whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
KJV

Er, Ann... That's a Robert Frost quote, not Joyce Kilmer. (Am I being too picky or what?!)
