The Lord's Day
We got up, got ready, and went to church this morning. Honestly, I almost didn't go. I was so tired from the Fall Festival plus working that this morning I was dragging. But I knew that if I just went on to church, I'd soon be ok. I was right. I felt refreshed afterward.
We had a special speaker. This man is an evangelist but he also organizes college campus outreaches. He's originally from around here but has lived 14 years in another state doing his work. Was called back by the denomination to do the same work here.
Anyway, a couple of months ago he was at a local church near here where his sis and brother in law are pastors. After services, he wanted to get better acquainted with his little nephew who is 5, so he invited him to ride with them (he and his family) to go out to eat. The child eagerly agreed, but while the adults were still talking he ran out in the road trying to get to this man's car. A truck was coming so this man ran to the child and tossed him out of the path of the truck, but the truck hit him and knocked him a long way and into a ditch.
He should have died. He had internal bleeding, numerous broken bones, and cuts/bruises. He took the full impact of the truck. Yet, within seconds he was awake and talking. He saw his little nephew standing in the driveway with nothing more than a little scuff mark on his arm. He was med-flighted to a hospital. On the flight the internal bleeding miraculously stopped. He had a contusion to one lung and it stopped bleeding, too. They did surgery on his leg and put in a rod, plus he had a concussion. Other broken bones (ribs mostly) healed without further surgery.
So now, when he gives his testimony, it's truly an amazing thing to hear. Plus, the man who was driving the truck became a believer. He had said that he told people if he could SEE God's work, he'd believe. Well, when he saw that child in front of him, the man tossing him out of the way, the fact that the child just got a scrape and the man was talking and being himself there in the ditch, he knew he saw a miracle and immediately believed in the Lord Jesus.
The preacher is still in the healing process and walks with a cane now, and still has pain especially at night, but he's determined to do God's work. In less than 2 weeks, he's headed to South Africa for work on college campuses there.
Well, anyway, after church this morning we came home and I cooked a nice lunch for us - fried pork chops, fried cabbage, steamed California mix veggies, biscuits and gravy. Yum! I also steamed rice but will use it tomorrow for fried rice by combining it with the leftover veggies and slicing up the leftover pork chop.
I napped a little on the couch after lunch. We went to evening service, then afterward Brandon went to McDonald's to help close and I came on home. I'm waiting now for him to call so I can go pick him up.
It's been a good Lord's Day.
