Working woes

Honestly, it's getting harder and harder for me to face work. Not because of the other managers and crew. They're all pretty great people and I like them very well. But the stress of working at a place like McDonald's is more than most people realize. I think it's why we go through so many employees.

The average restaurant visitor really doesn't realize how fast-paced this kind of a job is. All they see is the cashier and whether their food is perfect. They don't take into account that there are a dozen orders ahead of them - and that by mere seconds. Or that there is a drive-thru where there are often another dozen orders to be dealt with. Nor do they comprehend that each and every meal is made to order. Nothing is made ahead of time, especially nothing with the customer's particular wants on the sandwich. No pickles. Extra ketchup. Mayonnaise instead of mustard. The variables go on and on.

They mostly are highly displeased if we are having to actually cook fresh chicken or something else, as if we should have been keeping tons of cooked product on hand just in case that person ordered it. They don't realize that it's not safe to have too much cooked. It can grow bacteria after only 15 minutes of holding time. Yet, they get downright angry if they have to wait a minute or two minutes for something to finish cooking.
