Ice storm action
The predicted ice storm hit just about the time we were ready to leave work Thursday night. It started with sleet and freezing rain, of course, which covered our vehicles with a layer of ice. The roads were mainly wet, but you could tell some ice was beginning to build on them by the tracks other vehicles left.
The assistant manager had called to tell us to get finished and out of there ASAP. He said to leave some things undone and that he'd explain the situation to those who'd be there early in the morning. He didn't want any of us driving on icy highways.
I got some extra gas in my truck and left Town. I made it home ok. I was met by a layer of ice on my porch and steps. I carefully negotiated my way in. Cat and Dog wanted to go out until they were pelted by the sleet at the doorway. So, I laid papers out in the hall for them to use until the worst of this passes and they could go out again.
I drew up quite a bit of water, too, in case the power goes out. Being on a well means no water if there's no power. I got several bucketfuls to use for the toilet, plus about 10 gallons of drinking/washing water.
I was able to get the emergency single-burner stove plus fuel cells I wanted, as I mentioned previously. I made a couple of large pots of coffee as soon as I got home. That way, all I'd have to do is warm up some of it on the emergency stove.
As I wrote this (Thursday night) I was listening to the sleet hitting the windows. My house was warm, but the sound of the sleet made me feel chilly!
