Wandering Tom Cat
My cat, which is now almost two years old, has been missing for the past 3 or 4 days. Tom cats do tend to wander if they aren't neutered, and this one isn't. I'm thinking it's past time to have that done, though.
See, even though there are times when I absolutely hate that cat, he has actually begun to grow on me. It's taken a long time. He used to do things to me like attack my ankles with tooth and claw, or scratch the dickens out of my fingers if I tried to pet him. He's mellowed out a bit now, though, and I actually missed him those days he was gone.
Dog missed him, too. I know because she would sometimes gaze at the front door expecting to hear him meow to come in. When I took Dog for a walk, she'd sniff and search for the Cat and be reluctant to come in because Cat wasn't with us. They are pals, sometimes sleeping together in one big furry ball at the end of the couch. When I take Dog for a walk, Cat goes with us and usually comes back in with us. From time to time he decides to hang out outside, though.
I'm satisfied Cat wasn't on some Executive job search. No, he was "dating", I'm sure. But when we heard Cat meowing from way across the yard this morning, Dog was overjoyed and ran to him, sniffing and licking and whining and yelping, as if to say, "Where have you been?!". Cat tried to disguise his joy at being back with Dog, but wound up rubbing Dog all over and purring, despite himself.
We're a family again.
