Birthday activities
I've had a really fun birthday today. I slept late, then got a shower, painted my nails, and got ready to go to town. Son wanted to take me out to eat and to a movie.
We ate at Cracker Barrel, my favorite place for home-style cooking. I had a plate load of really fattening stuff - chicken and dumplings, macaroni and cheese, fried apples, and hash brown casserole. I never eat like that, so I figure one day out of the year probably won't hurt. Since it was my birthday, the waitress said I could have a free serving of cobbler. I chose blackberry. It came with a dip of nice, hard vanilla ice cream. (I really prefer dipped ice cream to soft serve.)
We then headed to Office Depot to kill some time before the movie started. We are real party animals, aren't we? Anyway, I picked up a pretty laptop sleeve that matches my purse and wallet. It was on the clearance shelf, of course. I'm hoping in a couple of months to get a new laptop to go with it!
It was time for the movie to start by the time we finished there. We watched The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington. It was really good but it does have a lot of language and violence in it. However, the story was excellent as was Denzel's portrayal of the title character.
I rarely go to the theater for movies. I'm so used to being home and watching them that a long sit-down movie makes me want to reach for hemorrhoidal treatment after an hour and a half. At home, I can get up and down, pause the movie, and do other things in between time. It's hard for me to remain in one chair for a full length movie now.
We ended the evening by going to Baskin-Robbins for a scoop of ice cream. (Just what we needed after the heavy meal, but it was a fun treat.)
