Snow!
We are finally out from under the snow and ice we got over the weekend. Well, most places anyway. My driveway still has about two inches of ice/packed snow on it. Thank goodness it's a short, level driveway.
There's a lot of cedar trees next to the driveway blocking the sunshine, so even when the temperatures go above freezing, all that stuff lingers for days. Around the house it's mostly oaks and hickories, so with no leaves the house gets plenty of warm sunshine on it. Even on the coldest days, I've been able to turn heaters off because the house warms up nicely through the passive solar energy it receives.
Because of the extremely low temperatures a few nights ago (single digits), I made sure the water was left dripping and we drew up several buckets of water for flushing the potty. If the power went out, we could at least stay here and not be uncomfortable. I have a way of cooking, lighting, and heating that works out very well for power outages. I also have extra drinking water on hand for such an event. We have a well, which means no water if there's no power.
I'll put up some pictures of the snow and our road in the next post. It doesn't take much to shut everything down here in the South!
