Veteran's Day 2012

Happy Veteran's Day to all those who have and are serving our great country! Thank you so much for your service.

It's Sunday, and I just happened to be off work today. The skies are overcast and there were strong storms predicted for today, along with a sharp cool-down the rest of the week. I am prepared for cold weather in most ways except mentally. I much prefer hot summer days to cold winter ones, but our precious earth needs the time of rest in order to renew itself in the Spring. It's not much different than us, in that respect, is it?

I started my day out rather slowly, surfing the Web, chatting online with friends, and planning my day. One of the first things on my agenda was to make more pumpkin bread, since I have almost a gallon of cooked pumpkin in the fridge that needs to be dealt with. I also planned to make laundry soap, since I used the last of what I had yesterday.

I wound up not making the pumpkin bread after all, opting instead to focus my attention to making hot chocolate mix, muffin mix, and chai mix. I did make the laundry soap, though, and got one load of clothes washed and hung up. Had to hang them in the bathroom since it was rainy today.

Storms began moving into our area around 3 PM, making it dismally dark outside. Heard thunder and saw some lightning flashes, and got news that a part of the state south of us was without power. So, I heated water in my teakettle and poured it into my pump pot in case the power went out and we wanted a cup of hot chocolate or chai tea later on.

Lunch was leftover beans and rice, with pumpkin bread for dessert.

By the end of the afternoon I was pretty tired, but satisfied that I'd gotten some things accomplished on my day off.  I spent the rest of the evening browsing the Web and watching some stuff on Netflix.
