Gun control

We have always had guns in the house. They are always hunting guns such as deer rifles or shotguns. They don't scare me but when my kids were smaller, I would have liked to have had a gun safe to keep them away from little hands. We were fortunate that our children were compliant with our rules not to touch the guns, though, and there was never an accident.

We always kept the ammunition in the top of a closet at the other end of the house, away from the guns, to further ensure everyone's safety. Since we never owned handguns, we really didn't have a use for a hand gun safe, though these days and being a widow, a gun of this sort might not be a bad idea.

One of the big problems with housing the guns the way we did was that after a time of no use, they'd get a bit of rust on the barrels. That could have been prevented by the use of a dehumidifier designed for small places like gun cabinets, closets, and gun safes. Danny had a cleaning kit and could fix them back up again, but it was bothersome to have to do this every time he wanted to use one of the guns.

We didn't have collector's items guns but if we had, I'm fairly certain a more secure device for storing the guns and keeping them in gun safes would have been in order. Nobody wants to lose such a valuable investment.
