Tuning out
I think most of the kids I work with are clean. But from time to time, one or another will come in to work and it seems like they are either very eager to work or they are completely tuned out. That always concerns me, since they have usually driven themselves to work. Like any town in the USA, there are illegal drugs even in the small burg where we live.
Since these kids are people I genuinely like, I hope their parents are savvy enough to seek drug rehab for them if there really is a problem. I'd like to see these kids succeed in their lives and move forward into bigger and better things, such as higher education or career training. They're quite bright, most of them, and can do so much more with their lives.

HI, just stopping by to say hi.
I have worked at a juvenile state prison, and since the teens had been locked up for some time they were clean, but it was sad to see these teens with such valuable lives wasting them away.

It is very sad indeed. I always wonder what can be in their lives that's so bad they have to be numb to experience it. My heart hurts for them.
