Wonderful days off

July 15, 2009

I am having a few days off up at my Mom's. It's been so restful and relaxing not to have to deal with getting up early to go to work. I was really needing these days off. Since I won't be online until after I get back home, I'm dating the blog entries to better keep up with them.

The first day I was here (Tuesday) we really didn't do a lot. But today (Wednesday) we went shopping. First, to a local grocery store that was having a huge mark-down sale on items that were about to go out of date. Nearly all of those items were priced at .50 to 1.00 and can be frozen. Things like hot cocoa mix, rice dinner mixes, cake mixes, icings, and breakfast cereals can be wrapped and frozen for use later while preserving the quality.

There were also some canned items and since undamaged cans have a long shelf life, I don't think I'll have any problems from them. Also in the mix were some little packages of shrimp, like the chunk tuna packages, which did not expire until 2010! I guess the only thing they didn't have was medicines and, vitamins, and the best weight loss supplements on the shelf. Still, I was glad to get the things I did. I'll put canned stuff under my bed since I don't have a lot of space in the kitchen.

Anyway, we love bargains so we all gathered up a lot of stuff we could use and put in our pantries at great prices.

Later, we went to a beautiful antique mall and flea market. It was well air conditioned. The booths were neat and orderly and well-lit. I wasn't actually looking for anything in particular, but it was a pleasure to stroll through this building and look at all they had to offer. Sis came away with a thick novel that she'll start reading soon.

After that, we went to a gigantic fabric store. I was actually looking for something in particular there, but even with all they had to offer I didn't find it. I may have to change my plans for recovering my sofa and chair cushions.
