Bad winter weather

It's been a crazy few days here. We got hit with a winter storm that combined snow and sleet to make for very bad road conditions here in the south. See, in this part of the country, we really aren't well prepared for this kind of weather. We just don't get a lot of it and it's not economical to have trucks, snowplows, and chemicals at the ready for less than a week's worth of inclemency.

So, it takes some time for roads to be cleared and traffic to safely flow again. Now, in our area, there are power outages. No downed lines, but the word is that it's been so bitterly cold that people are turning up the heat, causing transformers to fail. Now, it's not as if there's enough precipitation around here for anyone to be planning ski vacations in our area, but it's enough to bring our little part of the world to a standstill.

The predictions for the rest of the week are for more snow and more ice, though. I'm supposed to work tomorrow night, but if my road gets bad (I live pretty far out in the country, at the bottom of a hill) I won't be able to make it into town. Someone will have to cover for me. It's not usually a problem. Several of the other managers live right here in town so they should be able to get someone to take the shift.

I had planned to go to Mom's over the weekend, to celebrate Sis's birthday. However, if the weather predictions are correct and come to pass, I probably won't be able to make it. This really stinks since I've waited so long due to truck troubles to go up there. Now, there may be another delay. Blah.
