Wednesday silliness
The final treat I made was some rich lotion for dry skin. It seemed simple enough to make. The ingredients were merely baby lotion, petroleum jelly, and vitamin E cream mixed together. How hard could it be?
We got the ingredients out, only to discover that one jar that we thought was petroleum jelly was, in fact, some of the lotion. Sis had another jar of the jelly upstairs so she fetched it down. It was a much larger jar than the recipe called for but it was partially emptied so we thought it might be enough. However, we lacked the appropriate size jar to measure it into.
Mom said she had the right size sitting on her dresser at her house, also partially used. Sis and I both agreed that we still needed something to measure the jelly into. Mom suggested that I could just scoop from Sis' jar into that one to get the right amount. Duh.
So, I hot-footed it over to her house and brought it back to Sis'. Wouldn't you know it, that jar was only about half the size of the amount I needed. I commented that I never realized that petroleum jelly came in such a vast array of sizes!
We were still at a loss about how to get the correct amount measured out. Sis fetched a measuring cup from her kitchen, but that wouldn't work. Petroleum jelly is sold by weight, not volume. While Sis and I mulled the problem over, Mom looked at the bag of other empty jars and discovered one that was the right size after all. Assuming what was in Sis' jar was plenty, I started digging it from there and putting it into the right size jar. Nope. Not enough. So, I scooped it from the small jar of Mom's. It took all of that plus Sis' to make enough!
I finally got everything into a large bowl and started mixing, which isn't as easy at it sounds. It's a pretty good workout mixing petroleum jelly into the creams so that it's completely blended in. In fact, between all the running and fetching and mixing, I'm pretty sure that we didn't need fat burner pills to work off our lunch!
At last, though, I had a finished product. The recipe makes a pretty large amount of cream, so I took a portion of it and used a pretty salmon colored cold cream jar for it. The rest we put into a plastic container until they decide to place it in jars to use themselves or give as gifts.
By the way, Lucy ain't got nothin' on us. Our family's antics would make a good sit-com!
