Bought a mini washer
While it's not really "Christmas shopping", I did just order a mini washing machine from the Biggest Discount Store On The Planet. They don't have them in stock at any of the nearby stores and the shipping was free, so I took the plunge.
I've really been needing a washing machine but my little house doesn't have a place to put a regular one. This mini washer is portable so I can roll it to the sink, hook up the hose and put the drain hose in the sink, then wash small loads of clothes. I regularly use my clothesline, even if I go to the laundrymat, so drying isn't too much of a problem. On bad weather days, I hang clothes on a drying rack set in the bathtub and on plastic hangers on the shower rod.
Lately, I've used the dryers at the laundrymat a lot more because I've been washing clothes before I go to work, making it all one trip. The PTB there have increased the prices for washers, now at $1.50 a load, and dryers, now at .25 for 8 minutes instead of 10 minutes. Washers were $1.25 per load. This doesn't even include the gas it takes to drive the 12 miles one way to the laundrymat.
Call me a cheapskate or a skinflint if you want, but it's hard for me to continue to plug quarters into machines I'll never own and which aren't that convenient for me to use, especially with the price increases. I am finding myself spending $10 to $15 a week on laundry, not including detergent. So, the way I have it figured, this little washer will pay for itself in about 14.5 weeks, or less if you figure in the travel cost.

I agree, Ann, about not wanting to spend money at the laundromat. As soon as we could afford one (and had room for one), DH and I bought a washing machine/dryer combo. I, too, hang most of my clothes to dry, but with two other people in the household, and with bedding and towels to wash every week or two, the dryer certainly comes in handy. And it's such a time-saver to be able to toss in a load of laundry when you're at home every day or two versus having to take a couple of hours to go out to the laundromat to do all your laundry at once. Enjoy your money and time savings!!!

Thanks, Lizzy! I'm sure I will enjoy this little machine when it finally gets here. Can't wait!
