Busy Friday
Friday turned out to be as busy as I'd thought it would be, if not moreso.
We had agreed to meet a person in Big Town, who was coming from a town across the river, to purchase some bales of hay. She had 5 bales at a reasonable price. We got those and chatted with the very nice lady a few minutes before we headed back to our town. We stopped in Big Town at a buffet pizza place for lunch.
After lunch was trouble, though. Son had left the headlights on (it had rained a bit on our way) and the battery was dead. We put the hood up and started trying to contact people who might be able to give us a jump. Naturally, they were unavailable because they were at work, which is to be expected in the middle of the day. Then, an oil rigger asked if he could help, and we gladly let him. He was very nice and refused any pay for his help. So, we headed toward our town once again.
We got the hay unloaded onto a large pallet and covered it with a tarp to keep it dry. Then we regrouped for a trip much farther away. I packed snacks of a variety of fruits, a pack of crackers, and some ice cold bottled water. Put that into the cooler, then contacted the people we were going to purchase some bulk items from, and headed out.
The trip took about 2 hours and we arrived right around 4 PM. These folks were really very nice. I was able to get cornmeal, wheat germ/wheat bran mix, powdered milk, and powdered soy cream in large bags for a super low price.
We chatted with this man and wife quite some time about a number of things related to just keeping our heads above water with the prices rising so high. The woman was an avid horse lover and had just been through our town a few days ago on the way to pick up a horse she bought. I didn't see if she wore kerrits riding clothes or not as she was just in jeans and a t-shirt when we met, but I'm betting she does.
After that we headed back home, snacking on the fruits, cheese and crackers, and cold water. It was a busy but interesting day and I was more than just tired when we finally got the bulk goods off-loaded. I'll be storing all that in the bedroom that's not used and working on bagging it up into smaller bags.
