Wednesday day off
I didn't sit down and post about my events of yesterday, but really, not much happened. I did work yesterday.
Got home from work around 6 PM and put a squirrel in the pressure cooker. Let that cook for about an hour to get it good and tender. Took the squirrel out of the pot, and added some stewed tomatoes, dried onions, dried celery, cooked pinto beans, and spices to the broth. Started that simmering while I deboned the squirrel, then tossed that in the pot. Cooked it for awhile until it thickened up and became Squirrel Chili.
We had a late supper of the chili with crackers, sour cream, and mozzarella cheese. There's plenty left for at least one more meal - maybe two. Any small amount left after that will be added to the soup makings container in the freezer.
I started my day off today with canned peaches, toasted homemade bran bread, and freshly perked hot coffee. I had a few things I wanted to accomplish today around the house, so I needed to get started on them. Laundry, cleaning, and starting a fenced enclosure for ducks then another one for goats topped my list.
I had posted some bags of rabbit manure for sale on a public listing site a few days ago, and a lady contacted me via email to let me know she wanted it all. She couldn't make it yesterday, but said she would be here today to buy it. We'll bag up some more and repost it in a day or so since the lady showed up about 10 this morning and bought all we had.
After a lunch of leftover chili, we worked on a fenced enclosure for future goats and got about half done with that before we gave out and came inside. (We decided that the fence wire we have will still let ducks out, so that project is on hold for now.) We should be able to get the rest done tomorrow, except for the front part where the gate will be. Digging postholes for the gate is no easy task in the rocky ground. We filled what Son had dug with water in hopes of soaking the rock hard clay enough to get deep holes dug. Maybe tomorrow, those can be finished. I'll need to get some quick-crete to put around the posts. Anywhere else we need posts we'll just drive in metal fence posts, but the gate area needed to be extra sturdy.
The fence project took most of the day, but I did get laundry done, at least, and a little cleaning done before we went outside. Supper was chili-mac, since I had just about enough left of the chili to make that dish. Served it with garlic toast and iced tea.
After that, I mainly just watched movies on Netflix and rested. Fence building is hard work, even though I know Son did most of the real work.
