Democrats push for paid sick days
Great idea! Now that we have a Democratic Congress, bills like this are bound to be commonplace, right? After all, the liberal Democrats are all for the people of this country. They "feel your pain" when it comes to poverty, work place rights, and other so-called rights in this nation. Let's all jump on the bandwagon and give them our support, especially for this possible bill.
But wait...who pays for that? Employers? Yes, but also the rest of us. We all get to pay for employee sick days when we pay higher prices for products and services. Employees get to pay for it through lower wages. Businesses get to pay for it through reduced production.
The leader of this rat pack is Mr. Kennedy - no surprise there, huh? He's rolling in it so what does he really care? No Child Left Behind was mandated, then funded by the government or our tax dollars. But paid sick days would be mandated and paid for by us all a bit more directly, with the first money coming straight from an employer's pocket.
Just to get a little idea about this, let's say a business has 100 employees. Further, let's say those employees earn an average of $8 an hour - not much really. If paid sick days is forced on this small business, and each employee takes only 3 days paid sick leave at 8 hours pay per day, that adds up to $19,200 the employer must pay for basically nothing. It translates to nearly a year of lost production days. How long do you suppose any employer could carry on with that hanging over them? They can either hire in new workers at a lower rate of pay, pay current employees less, charge more for products, or maybe even just close the doors, thus tossing their workers into the unemployment lines.
Way to be, Democrats!
