Happy Holidays, Season's Greetings....
...or Merry Christmas? It really doesn't matter anymore, does it? After all, the true meaning of Christmas is very far removed from the festivities we have today. The bacchanalian feasts. The glitzy parties. Harried shoppers. Deadlines. Countdowns. Ho ho ho...NOT.
Honestly, I don't care anymore how you greet me during this season of the year. I just pray you know how and why this celebration even exists. And no, I don't mean the pagan origins. I mean further back to the birth of Christ.
We don't know the exact day of His birth, it's true. So December 25 was selected as the day to honor it. I won't go into the full history of that here. It's easily researched online for yourself, if you really want to know it.
And if you're one of those who refuses to celebrate because it's not the real day, then that's ok, too. Everyone should follow their own conscience and conviction in this regard.
If you're a Christian, though, and are leaving Christ out now, then maybe you're either trying too hard to be politically correct or you aren't giving Him your undivided heart now or at other times. Don't be shy. Say Merry Christmas. Don't be ashamed of Him. He certainly wasn't ashamed of you on the cross that day.
