Needle and thread

I'm debating whether to hem a new skirt by hand or drag out the sewing machine and hem it on that. The skirt is a black khaki type material and has a machine stitched hem now instead of blind hemming, so it would look ok if I used the sewing machine. However, the machine is in the back bedroom and would need to be brought out and set up, threaded, all that stuff, before I could use it. I'm thinking maybe just hand sewing the hem would be faster right now.

I'd like to wear the skirt to work tomorrow night instead of my regular uniform skirt. It's longer than my uniform skirt, which is much shorter than I normally wear. However, with me being short the thing comes nearly to my ankles. On a "normal" height woman, it would probably hit around mid-calf. That's where I want it when I'm through with the hem.

Anyone else have problems like this?
