Move it on over
I'm happy to announce that Son and I rented Older Daughter's house yesterday evening. I've got the receipt in my purse, so now I need to have the power and water turned on out there and we'll be good to go! We were so pleased that we headed out there right away to look around, though we are both quite familiar with the house already.
It was getting dark by the time we went so we just used a flashlight to tour around the house. Still, it's nice to know that soon we'll be in a real house instead of a mobile home. I'm excited about getting my things moved over there and setting up housekeeping!
The style of the house is perfect for a casual, Southwestern style of decorating. I've already got elements that will fit right in. I'll get some bargain-table fabric to sew up for quick, simple window treatments so I can block the evening sun and keep the house cooler through the summer. I figure we'll be there for awhile until I get a credit score, which I don't have at all right now.
I'll use my compact fluorescent bulbs all through the house. I have two great coupons from the electric company so I can buy more if needed. The house has ceiling fans in strategic locations which will help keep cool breezes flowing while we're at home.
What I'm lacking now is a washer and dryer. My old ones had seen better days long ago. The dryer was making the tips of collars and the corners of anything turn brown for some reason. The washer was just plain old. Neither one were energy efficient and the washer used a lot of water even on low loads. This means I need to be looking for compact, energy efficient machines. It's just Son and I, so we don't need big, heavy duty, full-sized laundry appliances. And, I'd like to see if I can lower my utilities even further by using compacts. Maybe I can get a stacked set and use the remaining part of the laundry closet for another purpose.
