Electrical problem update
Daughter and Son-in-law had to go through quite a bit of work and expense to get my electrical problems solved.
The main house breaker (the breaker box is located outside) was fried. We were all thankful that it didn't catch fire and burn the house! The poles that run down the center had gotten so hot near the main breaker that they were actually as pliable as aluminum foil. All this meant the whole box had to be replaced as well as the main breaker and a couple of smaller breakers near it.
They went to Big Town to a national home and lumber store to get what they needed, then came back to work on the problem, which entailed removing the meter before starting on this high-voltage project. This was not a quick fix, for sure, and they worked several hours getting it all installed and running again. I had to go in and go to bed for a couple of hours at least so that I could get up at 3 AM to get ready for work. I went in around 1 AM and they were still finishing it up.
I know that's not how they wanted to spend their Friday night and I felt bad about the whole ordeal. The power has only flickered once since then, and that was because of storms, so it's all good now.
I think they won't have to deal with that for many years now. The old box had been there over 10 years and I suppose the weather finally got to it, even though it's designed to be outside.
