Highlights of the family gathering - 1
I had a wonderful time at the family gathering today. I don't know if anyone counted how many were there, but I can tell you, there were a lot! From Mom, the Matriarch of the family, down to the smallest baby still crawling and every age in between, there were family and significant others all through the house and spilling out into the front and back yards.
I got up pretty early so I could get the triple batch peach cobbler baked. I had intended on showering while it was in the oven, but I didn't want it to burn or boil over, so I kept a close eye on it until it was done. The batter-type crust was a beautiful golden brown and I was very tempted to give it a "quality check" before covering it and putting it in a box to take to Nephew's house. I resisted the temptation, though.
Son and I got there ahead of a few of the family members, but they soon began pouring in. Not many were missing. I'm so glad about that because there are some I rarely see during the rest of the year.
There was an abundance of food, as well, mostly supplied by my Sis. Barbecue pork, cole slaw, 11 bean soup, chicken noodle soup, potato soup, deli turkey and Havarti cheese for sandwiches, cup cakes (both white and chocolate) and icing, ice cream, and the peach cobbler. Others brought various beverages and there was plenty of piping hot coffee to be had.
I'm pretty sure that I won't need any sort of over the counter sleeping pills to fall asleep tonight. It's been a long, busy, but fun day and now I'm really beginning to wind down.
