Days at Mom's
I really had a good 4 days off, visiting my dear, sweet Mom. She had a birthday Friday, which we celebrated by going out to eat at her favorite restaurant in another town. She enjoyed the creamy macaroni and cheese, baked fish, fried okra, and slaw immensely. I like seeing her eat so well, and mac 'n cheese usually does the trick for her.
Before we went to eat, we visited a local deep-discount store. Sis found some movies for $3 each and Mom found hummingbird food and some stick-on borders for scrapbooking. I saw a few things that interested me, but not enough to actually purchase them. I was interested in the sunburst wall decorations and wind chimes the most, but they still seemed a bit pricey to be at that particular store.
Saturday, Niece and two of her grandchildren visited. They brought along party favors which were so much fun. They also visited a local museum and made children's crafts there. Both the grandkids had a ball, and so did Niece! She kept us in stitches the whole time at Sis' house, she's such a cut-up.
Saturday was also the yard sale for their local Extension Homemakers. Several of the vendors got rained out, I guess, because there were a few empty booths. It was also cold and windy that morning, which I'm sure kept not only vendors but shoppers away. We, however, brave souls that we are, went to the sale.
I'm glad we did. I found my favorite lavender goat milk soap, so I bought two bars. The lady who made it raises goats, so we had a fun conversation and she shared pictures of her "babies" with me. So cute! Mom has purchased this same lady's soap for me in the past and it's excellent.
I also found hand crocheted pot scrubbies for $1 each. I love them. They are gentle on Teflon, if you have it, but do a super job of scrubbing out even stuck on food in iron skillets or other pans. I bought two of them. I noticed that I wear one out in less than a year, so this is a good time to get enough to last till next yard sale time.
Sis found some paperback novels she is wanting to read. She's an avid reader. Mom found a package of cute notecards with flowered hearts on them. She loves making greeting cards and these will, I'm sure, be added to her stockpile of embellishments.
Other than a strong thunderstorm on Friday night, the weekend went very well and, as usual, I had to return home earlier than I ever want to, but as planned. I can never soak up enough Mom to last me till the next visit!
