A little frustrated

I really like my phone, for the most part. However, the screen on it is really scratched up and I don't think it's worth replacing it. The scratches make it harder for me to scroll through messages, contacts, etc. Also, from time to time, it doesn't "go to sleep", which means the battery runs down a lot faster.

I will keep it awhile longer, but maybe I should think about getting a 32gb ipod touch as a backup. It's not a phone, but it does have the ability to send and receive text messages. I can use it here at home, with my wireless internet, or in town where there is also wireless internet and wifi offered at various locations.

Son has an iPod and really enjoys it everywhere he goes. Can anyone give me any tips or opinions about them?
