Supplementing electricity
A few months ago I ordered a couple of things that might help if/when our power goes out. One thing was a generator. Since it's not a huge one, it will at least keep the refrigerator running. Possibly, the freezer, too, but not a lot else. At least it doesn't use much gas -- it's rated to use about 1.5 gallons over an 11 hour period.
The other thing I got was a solar panel to charge two deep cycle batteries. I already have an inverter, so I could run the cord in the house and use it to keep my wireless modem and laptop running. What I'm lacking is a floor cord cover so that we aren't tripping over the cord. Since the weather has cooled down some, we should be able to construct the solar panel mount out in the front yard and finish that project up.
With the way the springs storms hit this year, I really want to be prepared if the power goes out for an extended period of time.
