Small towns
My sister lives in a small town - less than 10,000 people. And it's a college town, with two colleges. It has that small town atmosphere that Big Town used to have when I was a kid.
People know each other and each other's children. Shop owners are your neighbors. Even when supercenters and chain furniture stores and hardware stores enter the picture, the feeling is still a small town feeling.
Local events bring out the same families over and over, it seems. It's nice to see familiar faces. Even I, not a resident of that town, remember folks I've met here and there in the town - and they remember me, too. I often think maybe I should just move there, be closer to my Mom and Sis, and live the small town life once again.
