Business

A couple of weeks ago, we had a managers meeting for the general managers in our corporation. Something was said that really hit home. "You people are part of a multi-million dollar business, and should be treating it like that."

It was the director of operations who spoke those words, and he was right. Our individual stores may seem like small potatoes, but combined they make up a large business that employs several hundred people and contributes to the local economy. Just like other jobs in business, management where I work consists of holding the line on costs and doing what we can to improve profitability.

I think we sometimes forget that, even in the smaller, lower volume stores, we are part of the bigger picture. Keeping that in mind, I want our little store to be the best it can be. I want it to be a fine example of how any store can operate with good profits and low costs. I am hoping that one day, someone will point to it and use it as an example of how one should be run.
