Cool rainy weather

Rain is in the forecast here for the next seven days! That means there won't be much gardening or yard work done at my house unless I can get out there between showers for a few minutes. It also means that the yard will be knee high soon, as the grass has already sprouted up pretty tall.

Behind my house, the wild stuff seems to have gained a foot of height since yesterday. Maybe it hasn't, but it's definitely greener and much taller than a couple of days ago. All this rain makes for a jungle-like area around my house. Of course, it's good for what I have planted in my garden beds and that stuff is looking pretty perky, too.

The rains seemed to have transformed the spring-looking woods into fully leaved oaks and hickories. Gone are the messy blossoms from these trees, beaten off by rain and wind, and now thick leaves cover the branches. I welcome those leaves. They provide us great shade on all sides of the house keeping it cool even on very warm days.

This little house I'm living in now has always been fairly cool in the summertime because of all that shade. Yes, there are still days when the air conditioner must be used, but not as many as in the big house I moved from. I'm thankful for that.
