Company for supper
Yesterday, Son and Younger Daughter had plans to come to eat supper with me, so I started preparing a few things in the middle of the afternoon.
First, I went to the little store up the road and got some fresh cow's milk. With that, I made some home made cheese using vinegar. This kind of cheese is mild but so delicious. Then I made a batch of home made cornbread. I fixed some collard greens, cut up tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions, cooked rice, and boiled some redskin potatoes.
Daughter brought speckled butter beans for the main course. Yes, it was a no-meat meal, and it was all so tasty. I made sun tea for our beverage and we had yellow water melon for dessert.
This was a very relaxed, informal meal so there was no need for designer ties or dressy clothes. Just us in jeans, chatting happily over a country meal. I had such a good time!
After supper, we relaxed on the front porch and chatted until after dark, which is pretty late this time of the year. It was warm outside, but not intolerable. In all, it was a good day.
