Changing seasons
There is no doubt that fall has arrived around here. Nighttime temperatures are dipping into the 40s and daytime highs are in the 70s, for the most part. The leaves are changing colors. Roadside shrubbery is already a flaming red, while trees are changing from green to gold and orange and rust. The sun is traveling in a lower path in the sky.
The gardens are giving up the last of their fruits now. Some gave up weeks ago in the terrible heat wave we experienced.
We will still have some very warm days -- some even into the 80s -- before the full blast of colder autumn air really sets in.
While I enjoy the cooler temperatures to a point, the overnight temperatures make me very chilly. I bundle up in a blanket while I'm watching a movie on my TV. I really don't want to turn the heat on yet, since I just turned the air conditioning off a couple of weeks ago.
I picked up some plastic sheeting and caulk in order to do some winterization. Most of my windows still retain the plastic from last year (it helps keep the AC from running so much in the summer), but I need to replace it on a couple of the windows that I used for air circulation during the spring. I'll be getting some weather stripping and outlet insulators, as well, to block drafts.
I do dread the long, cold, gray winter.
