Zoo Talk: Direct deposit sucks

Rant Alert!

I am an unhappy worker today. I signed up for Direct Deposit for my paycheck (it was either that or a debit card from a major bank which I don't use) and now I won't get paid until Monday. I was supposed to be paid today.

Last payday, it rolled in around midnight so the money was in my account very early. Now, they are saying because it's the weekend, it won't go through for two more days. Sorry, folks. I don't buy it.

Electronic transfers of funds can go through any time of the day or night, on weekends, on holidays...it doesn't matter what day it is. I've transferred funds from one bank account to another one, paid bills, sent money every day of the week and it goes through immediately. It is drafted from my account and shows up where ever I sent it right away.

We live in an age of rapid technology, but apparently some banks are still in the stone age. Because I can't get my pay till Monday, I am at a standstill. Yes, I have plenty of groceries and other bills aren't due until later in the month. But, I can't pay my rent (he waits additional days already because I get paid on the 5th), I can't put gas in my truck, and I can't stop anywhere to pick up a few needful items at the store. As of this moment, I have less than 1/4 tank of gas. Read that as hovering between 1/8 and empty. I can probably scrape of $5 in change to get gas to make it to work today, but that won't happen tomorrow.

Others are in my predicament, and maybe worse. Some have autodraft bills coming out of their accounts today. They will incur overdraft fees because the payroll didn't deposit in their accounts. Others have kids and need to buy groceries to feed them. And, like me, they need gas in their vehicles.

I have plenty of food, so no problem there. I just don't know how I'm supposed to get to work and back on fumes!
