Tuesday update
It was another long day, but we don't seem to be quite as tired tonight as usual.
Danny had radiation this morning. While there, the doctor told Danny the knot under his jaw is NOT cancer. PTL!! It's a swollen gland and he can help it by putting warm compresses on it.
Then we went to the chemo doctor. Danny had his first round of chemo today. It was a low dose and will be the same next Tuesday. After that, he'll get the regular dose every 21 days - 6 treatments. These lower dose treatments shouldn't make him sick, but the other ones could. They told us today that it varies from person to person.
Danny didn't tell me till tonight that the chemo dr. talked to him about the EKG. He has an irregular heartbeat, which we knew. What we didn't know that taking the steroids last night and this morning could have slowed his heart so much it could stop. Next time, he's to take 2 at night and 2 the next morning before treatment. This time, he had taken 5 each time.
The dr. said that even with just 2 per, his heart could still stop during one of the irregular beats but it could also start again. He didn't know for sure how it could happen - only that it could.
Anyway, we were in town from 10:30 AM until around 5 PM. The difference today was that Danny snoozed while taking chemo and I snoozed a bit, too.
The doctor also told Danny he could stop taking Percocet unless he has some severe pain. Also, he can stop taking the"Maalox cocktail" before and after meals as long as his throat is feeling ok.
I noticed he wasn't wheezing as much today, and he wound up not needing Albuterol as much. That was a blessing right there.
We are still believing for a miracle in all this.

Ann, I've gone through all of this stuff with my mom and she is in remission. I pray for him to do well and come into remission as well. Nothing is impossible with our Lord. I want to reassure Danny that the port was the easiest way for my mom and will be for him as well. Mom is terrified of needles and she ended up doing well with the port. Ask the doc about any side effects with the second round of chemo and I would suggest getting some udder cream for his feet. If he has the same reactions as my mom did. If not, I'm sure he'll enjoy a nice foot massage from time to time :) Take care and God bless. We are praying for you both.

Ann-Still saying prayers --My Mil had a port put in at the hospital and it was so much easier for her . No hunting for a vein each time they need to give her meds.
