Rose of Sharon tale
I'm not sure how many years ago Mom got these bushes. It had to be around 25 or more, though. I was the one who brought them to her. I had some in my yard that had sent up little sprouts around them from the seeds dropping on the ground. So, I dug them up and brought them to Mom.
I had gotten the plants originally from my Father-in-law from my first marriage. My husband's parents had planted a long row of them and they produced little volunteers which we moved and planted along the front of our yard. They made a nice, casual hedge row there and helped to block some dust from the gravel road we lived on.
The original plants were purchased from a mail-order plant place. I'm not sure now which one, it's been so long ago. But they go back at least 35 years in family history. So, digging up and taking some of these sprouts home with me, they've just about gone full circle. Maybe someday, my children will want to dig up sprouts from the plants I have and put them in their own yards, continuing the family Rose of Sharon heritage.
I'll be grouping these together in a special spot in my yard to show them off at their best and enjoy when I'm outside.
