Digging out from under the snow
The weather is returning to normal, finally. I just hope we don't get another round of it anytime soon. The road I live on still has some ice and snow, though vehicle traffic has a path knocked through it. And, my driveway and yard are still covered.
It's melting, though, and is gone from the roof of my house now. What is left is slushy and dirty looking. Dog still likes it and it's hard to get her to come back inside after her walk. I suppose she will look for every last little patch of snow to play in while it remains. She apparently doesn't need prenatal vitamins since she's so full of energy when she heads outside. But then, she's fixed so I guess she never will need them, right?
It's highly unusual for us to have this much "winter" in the south. It's hit all across the south and left a lot of people wondering how to drive on it. My solution is to not drive on it. Snow is one thing, but packed snow that turns to two inches of ice on secondary roads is something else altogether.
I'm just glad we don't see this every year, and for this many days. We've endured far less than the northern states have, but we are not as prepared for it as they are. Our states don't budget too much for this kind of weather. Rural school districts don't have "snow routes" in our state so they close the schools. No one wants their kids on buses that could go careening off an icy hill or curve.
