Potluck family reunion
Guest post written by Sally Daner
Each summer my mom’s side of the family has a reunion and we all bring a dish for the potluck lunch at it. We normally try to coordinate who’s going to bring what so we don’t end up with five green bean casseroles, although I love green bean casserole.
This year we organized all of this through e-mail, except for a few of the older relatives who told their kids what they were going to bring and their kids made sure through e-mail that no one was bringing any duplicates. The e-mail system was my idea this year because we had a bit of a mix-up last year that my sister isn’t going to let me forget for quite a while. When I was talking to her on the phone a week before last summer’s reunion she told me that she asked me to bring potato salad, or at least that’s what I thought that she said.
When I showed up at the reunion, I saw that there was a huge bowl of potato salad already there that my great aunt had made. Apparently my sister said potato casserole instead and still hasn’t let me forget it. After dealing with that, I looked up hearing aid pricesand bought one.
Despite the jokes, I brought the dish I was assigned this year, maraconi salad, and all went well.
