A blessing!
Our porch is close to falling through while we're trying to get into the house. It's just plain rotten and we are VERY careful when we walk on it. I just don't want us or anyone else breaking a leg because the porch floor fell through.
A few weeks ago we had a visitor from church. They were coming to get William's camper and take it back to his parents' house. Anyway, they noticed the poor condition of my porch and as a result, we have been blessed with a new one.
Here's the catch - one of the men at church built what is basically a porch floor. He covered it with the green turf stuff to help prevent us slipping if it gets icy. We brought it home in the back of the van. Now we have to take down the posts and roof, rip out the old porch floor, and install the new one. I hope we can get that roof back up, too.
I have a huge jasmine vine growing on the lattice work that's on the front of the porch and I guess we'll have to severely prune it back in order to do the rest of the work. I hope it recovers. We'll also have to use cinder blocks under the new porch floor, but I think we have enough of those around here. The old porch is resting on large size parts of cedar trunks, and the posts are cedar posts cut from this property. I really like the look of them with the short branches to hang things on, like an old lantern.
I just checked the work schedule and we don't have any time off till next Sunday, which means we'll have to try to work on this during a couple of the days. However, tomorrow (Monday) is the only day this week that we actually work at night. The next time is next Saturday. Sheesh. When will we do this?
