Christmas gift ideas

The shopping season has begun, although traditionally, the day after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year. Black Friday, some businesses call it because it's the day when they truly operate in the black instead of in the red.

Many of us will be shopping online. I've done it in years past and it works out pretty good if I order early enough. I don't like to risk ordering too late in the season even if a site guarantees delivery by Christmas Day. Somehow, I just don't think they can really guarantee that.

Something that could be a good gift for the sportsman in your life is binoculars. We've got a pair and we've used them even for homeschool field trips. They're a lot of fun and you can view various birds and wildlife from a distance yet still get a nice look at it.

The first hurdle is learning how to buy binoculars. It's learning how to interpret the numbers assigned to binoculars. It's also important to learn the uses for various types of binoculars to see if they are suited to your needs.

For instance, if you want to observe nocturnal animals like owls, you need to use night vision binoculars. If you are traveling or into bird watching or other daytime activities, you might want digital binoculars so you can actually take pictures and short videos.

Regardless of the planned use, binoculars can be useful for hunting, observing nature, homeschooling science, even going to the opera or to plays or concerts where maybe you didn't get optimal seating. Optics Planet has what you need and you can get free shipping on orders over $29.95. That's pretty low when you're shopping online. Right now, they are also having a sale for 30% to 70% off MSRP of many models and brands.
