Brandon's dog

Brandon's dog is dying. He went out to feed the dogs Saturday evening and found the dog without his collar. Now normally the dog would be all over the place if he was off his tether but instead he was just laying near the edge of his area. He couldn't get up and hadn't eaten the food that was put out Friday for him.

Brandon came in and got me, and we both went back out there. He tried getting the old dog up and put him near his food but the dog just wasn't interested. So, we cuddled the dog and talked to him. We let him know we love him and we're sorry he has to go. He wagged his tail weakly while we talked to him and petted him.

I got an old piece of thin carpet to put in his dog house. Brandon carefully laid him in there on it so he could be as comfortable as possible during these last hours. He also stayed out there with him for a long time, talking to him and petting him.

We've had the dog since he was born. We had his mother, who got run over before this dog even had his eyes open. He was the only one to survive out of a litter of 5 pups. We bottle fed him and he never knew any other family. He loved only us. He is about 14 years old and has been going downhill the past few months.

He's not a large dog. He's about the size of a blue heeler and looks almost like a red heeler. He was always so rowdy and bouncy...really cute and lots of fun but sometimes almost too rowdy. His name is Bud.

We'll look in on him Sunday morning and see what's going on with him, but I honestly think he'll be gone by then. We really are sorry to see him go.
