Dreaming
A long time ago, I operated a business at my home. I did dog grooming. I even had a little building constructed next to my house. I had equipment for grooming and bathing dogs, cages to keep them in while they waited, and even rose bushes outside the building to make it look like a little cottage. I did pretty well with that business for several years, and I learned a lot about managing a business, managing the money, and tax issues. Those things have carried over to today.
One of the reasons I stopped working that business was that my husband at the time had been severely injured on the job and required constant care for a long time. Eventually we moved into the city (my business had been out of the city limits), and he got well enough that I could work again. Only this time I worked in a vet clinic, doing the same thing - grooming dogs. No overhead and the vet clinic covered any bad checks. We split the grooming fees down the middle, so I made out ok. Still, it wasn't the same as operating my own business, and that's been a dream I put on the shelf for many, many years.
So again, I'm looking into home based business opportunities. Every time I go to work, I grieve because I can't be at home. I really do love being at home, but there are bills to pay which means I've got to earn income. But I'm starting to pull that dream back off the shelf and dust it off again. I'm seriously looking for something I can do here that will generate enough income to pay bills and possibly even enough that I can afford health insurance coverage. At my age, that's a huge factor!
As I search and browse for opportunities for working from home, I find a lot of them are party/sales businesses. For instance, Mommy's Work at Home Place shows you quite a few options in that and other areas. The one that sparked my interest was Patchwork & Preserves, dealing with Amish quilts and other products.
So what do you think? How long do you think it would take me to become independent enough to earn all my income from a home based business?

Good luck with your dream. I also have that dream and hopefully it will come true for both of us. Baby steps!

Baby steps is right! I probably need to write down a game plan, goals, and priorities, too, so I can see on paper where I'm heading with all of this.
