Flood watch

We've had a lot of rain in the past week, and it's raining again now. In fact, it has rained since yesterday afternoon here so it's to the point that now, we're under a flash flood watch.

Where I currently live, there's no real worry about flooding because we're pretty far up on a hill. However, the drive into town in any direction means going across areas where it's very low. The roads often have water running over them after this much rain.

A couple of years ago it was so bad that while trying to drive to work, I encountered water over the road that was deep enough to make my old van lose contact with the roadway. It was pretty dicey driving, so I turned around and came back home, then called in and told them what was going on.

The highways yesterday had standing water on them because the rain wasn't running off as fast as it was falling. We passed two wrecks within a one mile distance...people had hydroplaned and wound up in the ditch or against a fence. One of the wrecks, the vehicle narrowly escaped plunging off into a deep creek that runs under the highway!
