Chuck Wagon Races

This was Labor Day weekend, which means that it was also the weekend for the chuck wagon races in a town north of us. Every year, I say I'm going to go to the races at least once, then I never do it. I wind up working.

I've talked to people who go, though, and they say it's pretty exciting. The wagons are designed to be as stable as possible for turns. They are pulled by big horses that run as fast as they can. However, there are sometimes spills. A wheel might break or come off. The wagon might still tip over in the turns. It's kind of a crazy kind of sport. I'm not sure even a car accident lawyer could make things right for these folks. They really do take some chances.

I never really hear of anyone getting hurt, though, so they must be doing something right. I also don't hear of the horses being injured. I think they take pretty good care of these animals. There's a lot invested in them and they'd be foolish to put them at any real risk. Having had horses when I was younger, I already know that they are naturally competitive and love to try to outrun each other.
