Natural insect control

We have a lot of frogs, toads, and lizards around here. I welcome them. They help keep insect populations down. So, since we also have a lot of large, flat rocks, I'm going to put a few together for Frog Houses, to encourage them to all stay here.

Frog Houses aren't much more than four rocks stacked in such a way as to create a little rock shed of sorts. It's low to the ground and stays moist inside. It makes a good place for frogs, toads, and lizards to hide and rest.

I was wanting to also get or construct a couple of bat house, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. That time will come, though. Son thinks I'm a bit off doing these things, but I like having natural ways to combat the multitude of insects we get here in the South - insects that not only damage plants but also bite people and animals. Some of these insect bites can cause you to get sick, if they are carrying viruses such as West Nile. And while a colon cleanse may be good for the body, I just don't think that's the way we should be getting it!

I'll be planting some plants that also help deter insects. Marigold, of course, comes to mind immediately, but also things like Citronella and other plants help keep the bugs away. I'm going to do some more research in this regard.
