Wednesday flat tire

Seems like I didn’t truly catch up with my news for the week when I posted on Friday. Wednesday was quite a day.

I got paid Tuesday, so when I got home, I prepared a grocery list according to what was on sale and what coupons I had that I could use. I also loaded some digital coupons to my shopper card for my local grocery store. I made my list carefully, noting the coupons and special offers available.

Wednesday, after work, Son and I headed to shopping for some things in the Big Town near here. Since I had good coupons for Wendy’s, we stopped there to use a couple of them for our supper. That way, we wouldn’t be hungry while shopping. (It’s never a good idea to grocery shop while hungry.)

As we were enjoying our meal, a friend from work and his mother, who also works with me, stopped in to get some carry-out food. That’s when the friend said, “Did you guys know you have a flat?” Well, no we didn’t. All the tires were up when we parked. When we finished eating, Son changed the tire. We were pretty discouraged by this, and my other tire on the front wasn’t looking too healthy, so we decided to just head back home. I’m just glad it didn’t go flat while we were on the highway, driving, since it was a front tire and that can make it hard to control the vehicle.

I kept my fingers crossed on the way home and on the way back to work the next day. I knew I would need to visit my favorite tire shop and at least get a couple of used tires. He usually has them for around $25 each. I headed into town early enough to get the tires put on. But, wouldn’t you know it, he didn’t have any used tires. He said the size I need is getting impossible to acquire used, so I wound up having to spend a little over $200 for two new ones. I was not prepared to do that, and it really threw a monkey wrench in my budget, but I really had no choice.

No, the coupons did not get used and no, I didn’t buy groceries. I have plenty of food in the freezer, of course, so we won’t go hungry at all. And, I have extra canned veggies stored away, and I make my own breads, so I think we’ll be ok. Scraping up gas money to get back and forth to work this week is another matter!
