Ever bought a lemon?

It's been a long time since I've bought a new car. In fact, that experience sort of put me off new cars and since then I've only bought used ones. I figure the bugs are all worked out of a used one already.

The new car I did buy was a Renault. It got excellent gas mileage and was cute - red. I really liked it a lot UNTIL the clutch came out of it. I hadn't had the car over about two weeks when the clutch broke in it. It had to be towed to the dealership. The mechanic said it looked like the clutch exploded, as if there'd been an air bubble in the metal and when it got hot, it expanded. They fixed it under warranty, but it took them nearly two weeks to get my car back to me. I was much less impressed with the car after that. A clutch shouldn't tear up in a brand new car! Other things started going wrong with it, too. It was a lemon.

If I'd known about a lemon law then, I'd have certainly looked into it. Now, today, it's much easier to find out about such things. You can find local lemon law code and law firms here. You can search for a lemon law attorney by state, and get some recourse if you have bought a lemon. Don't get stuck with a car that needs repair after repair even though it's brand new. As a consumer, you do have rights. Find out what your state lemon law says and what protections and rights you have under it.
