After I think about things, I start to believe that maybe I am really better off not buying a house. With so many homes entering foreclosure because the families could not keep up the mortgage payments, it's easy to see that unless you have a sizable income, owning a home right now may not be the best choice. At least with renting, a family can have some assurance that not all the repair bills, maintenance, and property taxes will have to be paid on top of a steep mortgage payment.

It's possible that someday, I'll be in my very own house. I'm not giving up on that. But for now, with soaring gas prices and the rising cost of consumer goods, my rent payment doesn't seem so bad after all.
